Ethiopian prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Turkey’s president Erdogan signed a military cooperation agreement on Wednesday August 18, 2021 in Ankara. The agreement took place in Erdogan’s presidential palace after Erdogan’s warm reception to Abiy Ahmed. The military agreement was signed by Kenea Yadeta of Ethiopian defense minister and his Turkey’s counter part with the presence of Abiy and Erdogan.
Ethiopian prime Minister’s visit to Turkey took place on the same day when special envoy of the US President to East Africa Ambassador Feldman arrived to Addis Ababa.
President Erdogan announced that Turkey will support Ethiopian fight against the TPLF terrorist group which is allegedly supported by the US and European Union.
Some says prime Minister Abiy ‘s visit to Turkey is essential not only for it happened during a critical time when the United States and European Union turned their face against Ethiopia, but also it is symbolic that the East African nation with more than 110 million people has strengthen its relationship with the emerging super powers Russia, China and Turkey against the US and European Union block in the new cold War.
AsPrime Minister Abiy Ahmed returned back to Addis Ababa on the same day and thanked President Erdogan and the people of Turkey on his official Twitter account.
